Why study in Perth?

Perth is a beautiful place to study, and an even better place to live.

There are many benefits of studying in Perth. Studying in Perth continues to be a very popular option for students from overseas and regional areas. Affordability, safety and weather are just some of the reasons why study in Perth has become the best option for many families.

Due to these growing migration trends, Perth has developed a fantastically vibrant community that is culturally diverse and inclusive. There is a different atmosphere in Perth in comparison to larger capital cities like Melbourne or Sydney; in Perth it feels like a big community rather than a city with inhabitants.

There are many reasons to study in Perth, but we’ve unpacked a few that we believe deliver the greatest value to families considering a move or those thinking about sending their children to Perth for their education:

  1. Multi-culturalism
Perth is the most multi-cultural state in Australia. There are more than 200 different nationalities that live, work and study in WA, all living in harmony. There are over 170 languages spoken across the state and over 100 different religions represented. So, there is no doubt that wherever you are from, you are going to feel at home in Perth because chances are, you’ll be welcomed into the community just like all those before you.
  2. Natural beauty
Let’s not beat around the bush, Perth is absolutely stunning from a nature perspective. Some of the best beaches in the world are located just a short drive from the city. We also have an abundance of amazing regional locations on our doorstep or are easily accessible from the city. Think Broome, Karajini, Busselton and Margaret River. No matter how you like to experience nature, or if you would just like to get out and explore more – there is something for you in Perth. This could be as simple as grabbing some fish and chips at Cottesloe Beach and watching the sunset, or an adventure to see the dolphins at Monkey Mia (hot tip: if you’re less adventurous, you can keep an eye out for them in the Swan River).
  3. Weather
The weather is another drawcard for Perth. Located on a coastal plain in the lower part of Western Australia’s coastline, Perth offers a Mediterranean climate. The winters are mild and the summer periods are hot and dry. This weather lends itself to Perth’s outdoors lifestyle. It’s perfect weather for enjoying everything Perth has to offer: the beach, arts, sports and much more. Low population density and traffic congestion have also resulted in perfect blue skies and a pollution-free environment which makes studying and living in Perth truly idyllic.
  4. Culture and sport
Perth has turned into a culture-rich hub over the last decade and the City now boasts a host of sporting, musical and cultural events. There are major sporting franchises in Soccer and Basketball as well as Cricket, with many annual events scheduled. World-class venues abound, uch as Optus Stadium, which was completed in 2019. It seats 60,000 at sold out events like Ed Sheeran’s tours and the AFL Grand Final and boasts an LED light show that must be seen to be believed. Sport plays a large role in the culture of Perth, but it is also steeped in arts and musical culture too. Sculptures by the Sea in Cottesloe, the Food Trucks of Beaufort Street and the Fringe Festival are just three things on the annual calendar that you won’t want to miss.
  5. Lifestyle
Perth has a lifestyle that is difficult to match. It offers one of the highest standards of living in the world, and yet is more affordable than many other study destinations. There is an excellent public transportation network of buses and trains that makes sure every part of Perth is readily accessible. Perth is also a very safe place to live. There is a feeling of security within the city streets, in schools and universities and on public transport. You’ll also find the population of Perth is quite friendly too!
  6. Location
Perth’s location in a global context is also very useful. The fact that there is no time difference between Perth and China means overseas communication is made extremely easy. Perth’s proximity to Asia is a factor in more and more families choosing to study in Perth, it is far closer than going to the Eastern States and just simply more convenient.

There are many reasons to study in Perth. However, you can’t really express how great Perth is without visiting. Words can only go so far, and while pictures paint a thousand words, they don’t tell the full story. Visiting Perth is the best way to experience first-hand why Perth is such a great place to live and study.
