Winter Sport Wrap Up

Winter Sport Wrap Up

Sport is a valued and compulsory part of life at Guildford Grammar School. Every student from Years 5 to 12 commits to a summer and winter sport each year, training twice a week and competing in structured fixtures. While the competition models differ, the commitment is the same. Courage on the field, resilience on the court and determination on the track shape the experience.

Our boys compete in the well-established Public Schools Association, a tradition that builds camaraderie and pride. This year we were proud to take on hosting responsibilities across multiple venues including major PSA events and interschool carnivals, creating memorable moments of competition and community. For our girls, participation takes place in community-based competitions that provide opportunities to learn, grow and achieve. Together these programs reflect the depth of sport at Guildford Grammar where teamwork, discipline and Guildford Grit shine through.

Girls Football Makes History

Girls Football was one of the standout stories of the winter season. Our Year 7/8 team claimed Guildford Grammar’s first Women’s Football Premiership, an historic achievement that marks an exciting new chapter for the program. The Year 9/10 team also fought their way into a Grand Final, finishing runners-up after a season built on resilience and determination.

Both teams played with courage and skill, often in tough conditions, and represented the School with pride. With the support of WA Football and a coaching team that includes AFLW players and Old Guildfordians, Girls Football at Guildford Grammar is growing stronger every year. The future is bright and the first premiership is just the beginning.

Boys Soccer Steps Up

Our 1st XI Boys Soccer program reached new heights this winter. The team produced their strongest season in many years, with consistent performances, hard-fought wins and a standard of play that lifted the profile of the sport across the School. Their determination and skill were clear in every round, and the season is being remembered as one of the best in the past decade. This success has laid strong foundations for the future of soccer at Guildford Grammar, inspiring younger players to aim high and continue building momentum.

Athletics on the Rise

Athletics continued to showcase the depth of talent across the School. Our senior athletes won the ACC Carnival and secured promotion to A Division in 2026. Luke set three PSA records in one day and added another at the ACC Carnival, a phenomenal achievement that highlights his dedication and talent. Hosting the PSA Athletics Carnival at the WA Athletics Stadium gave our athletes a chance to shine and they delivered with outstanding performances. At Prep level, victory at the IPSHA Carnival and strong results at the JPSSA Carnival confirmed the strength of the program across all ages.

Volleyball brought a thrilling comeback from our Year 11/12 Girls who fought from 2–13 down in the second set to win the WA Junior Volleyball League Grand Final. The Year 10 Navy team also finished runners-up after a strong campaign.

Netball saw GGS 9 triumph in a Grand Final thriller, edging out their opponents by a single goal while GGS 5 showed courage and teamwork in their own final.

Rowing crews showed strength and determination at Champion Lakes with wins in the Open and Year 9 Double Sculls and second-place finishes in the Open and Year 10 Eights. For our Year 9s it was a strong debut at their first All Schools Regatta.

Guildford Grit

Guildford Grit was the defining feature of winter sport. AFL Boys proudly hosted the PSA Indigenous Round which brought together our Boodjar Bidi performers, the Wesley College Moorditj Mob and the wider community in a celebration of culture and connection.

Carnivals brought energy and pride to every competition. The House Athletics Carnival at the WA Athletics Stadium and the Quarter Athletics Carnival at Pexton Oval showcased determination and Quarter spirit. Preparatory students also shone at IPSHA Cross Country and JPSSA Athletics, competing with courage and sportsmanship.

Across every sport, students embraced challenges, played with resilience and represented Guildford Grammar with pride. Whether in premiership wins, finals campaigns or House carnivals, they showed what it means to live our values and Go Forward together.

Looking Ahead

What defined this winter season was not only the victories but the way our students carried themselves. Courage, determination and unity were always on display.

In both our Preparatory and Senior School, sport continues to be a place of growth and learning. Students challenged their limits, built confidence and shared in the joy of achievement.

As we now look toward the summer season we celebrate a winter that strengthened our community, tested our character and showed the very best of Guildford Grammar.

Thank you to our athletes, coaches, families and supporters. This season was a powerful reminder of what it means to Go Forward together.
