Pathways

The Future is Bright!

At Guildford Grammar School, learning is an inspiring journey where every student is encouraged to grow, question and discover. Our approach nurtures curiosity, resilience and a lifelong love of learning. With a balance of tradition and innovation, we equip students to navigate an ever-changing world with confidence, integrity and purpose.

Guildford Grammar School offers a variety of learning pathways to meet each student’s unique aspirations and strengths, supporting every learner on their journey to success. For students aiming for university, we offer the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) pathway, a rigorous academic program that develops critical thinking, problem-solving and in-depth subject expertise.

For those interested in a more practical, hands-on approach, our VET (Vocational Education and Training) pathway provides essential skills and workplace experience in fields such as trades, technology and the creative industries, combining learning with real-world application.

The ATAR pathway at Guildford Grammar School prepares students for university entry with a challenging and comprehensive curriculum designed to foster academic excellence. Students in the ATAR program engage in a rigorous study of core and elective subjects, developing subject-specific knowledge as well as essential skills in critical thinking, analysis, and research. Supported by experienced educators and tailored study support, ATAR students are guided towards their highest potential and equipped with the tools needed to succeed in further academic pursuits.

For students in Years 11 and 12, the WorkReady Pathway is designed to provide nationally recognised qualifications through Endorsed Workplace Learning Units. In consultation with the Futures office, students select relevant certificate qualifications offered within the school or through Registered Training Providers like TAFE. The WorkReady Pathway allows students to achieve two units of Endorsed Workplace Learning each year, counting towards their Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). Year 11 and 12 students also have the flexibility to undertake work placements during exam periods each semester, giving them practical skills and experience to complement their studies.

Our VET program offers students a head start in their chosen fields, with practical skills and knowledge that open pathways to TAFE, alternative university entry, and career opportunities. VET in Schools (VETIS) includes a variety of certificate qualifications available through Guildford Grammar School, TAFE, and other registered training organisations. School-Based Traineeships allow students to gain paid work experience and training in various industries, providing valuable insight and a foundation for future careers.

Together, WorkReady and VET programs cater to a wide range of interests and career paths, ensuring students graduate ready, willing, and able to pursue further study or enter the workforce with a competitive edge. Through these pathways, students gain real-world skills, build industry connections, and leave school with a nationally recognised vocational qualification.

Our dedicated Futures website and planning tool guides students through career planning, tertiary pathways, job opportunities and more. This comprehensive resource supports students, parents and teachers with relevant, timely information to assist in planning life beyond school.
