Music Tuition
A Lifelong Journey
Private music tuition at Guildford Grammar School is more than just learning an instrument—it’s about developing confidence, discipline and a lifelong passion for The Arts. Whether your child is discovering music for the first time or advancing their skills, our program offers the guidance, expertise and inspiration they need to flourish.

At Guildford Grammar School, we believe in the transformative power of music and the lifelong benefits it brings. Beyond our comprehensive in-class music curriculum program, we offer an extensive private music tuition program for students from Pre-Primary to Year 12. This tailored program nurtures individual talents, supports skill development and fosters a deep appreciation for the art of music.
Personalised Learning Experiences
Our private music tuition program is designed to meet the unique needs of each student, whether they are just beginning their musical journey or seeking to refine advanced skills. Lessons are conducted by specialist tutors who inspire confidence, creativity and musical excellence. Scheduling is flexible to minimise disruption to the academic timetable, with some out-of-school hours available for senior students. Instrumental hire is also available, making it easy for families to get started.
Students can learn a wide range of instruments, including:
- Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass
- Woodwind: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone
- Brass: Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Euphonium, Tuba
- Percussion: Drums, Percussion Kits

Performance Opportunities
Music at Guildford Grammar extends far beyond the practice room. Our students have access to many varied ensembles, bands and orchestras, including the Guildford Grammar Symphony Orchestra, jazz bands, rock bands and choirs. These groups offer regular performance opportunities at school events, community festivals and regional competitions. Students enrolled in private tuition are encouraged to participate, gaining confidence and valuable experience in collaborative music-making.
For students with a competitive edge, we also provide opportunities to participate in external music examinations and festivals, such as AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) exams and eisteddfods. To ensure families stay informed and engaged, progress is tracked through twice-yearly reports and regular updates are shared via the student’s music diary.
Boarding Students and Practice Facilities
Our boarding students are fully supported in their musical pursuits, with access to practice rooms before and after school, as well as during breaks. These facilities can be booked to suit individual schedules, ensuring every student has the resources needed to excel.
