Outdoor Learning Program

Discover, Connect, Thrive

At Guildford Grammar School, the natural world is a powerful classroom. Our Outdoor Learning Program (OLP) spans the entire school, creating transformative experiences that build resilience, promote curiosity and nurture a lifelong connection to the environment.

Guildford Grammar School’s Outdoor Learning Program provides students from Year 1 to Year 9 with transformative experiences in nature, fostering self-growth, resilience and environmental respect.

Using Experiential Learning practices, the program helps students build confidence, teamwork skills and a lifelong appreciation for the natural world.

Our program ranges from single-day activities to multi-night journeys, where students engage in bushwalking, canoeing, climbing and abseiling. These outdoor pursuits develop practical skills, deepen friendships and promote a strong sense of community. Each experience encourages students to take responsibility for themselves and their surroundings, reinforcing a sense of place and an understanding of cultural histories.

Our partnerships with leading outdoor providers and centres across Western Australia ensure safe and enriching experiences. Programs like Bush School provide hands-on opportunities for younger students to explore and learn in nature, fostering curiosity and environmental awareness from an early age. Through these carefully crafted adventures, Guildford Grammar School equips students with the skills and mindset to thrive as connected, capable individuals within their communities.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Using our 78-hectare campus along the Swan River and beyond, the Outdoor Learning Program immerses students in meaningful, hands-on experiences. Activities such as bushwalking, canoeing, camping and problem-solving develop life skills like teamwork, independence and adaptability while enhancing academic learning through creativity, collaboration and critical thinking.

Preparatory School: Programs like Bush School introduce young students to the natural environment through play and discovery, building confidence, curiosity and environmental awareness.

Senior School: Older students engage in multi-day expeditions, outdoor adventures and leadership challenges that promote self-reliance, resilience and personal growth.

Building Resilience and Wellbeing

Outdoor learning supports student wellbeing by reducing stress, improving focus and enhancing resilience. Time spent in nature fosters emotional balance, a sense of belonging and confidence to navigate challenges effectively.

Enriching the Guildford Grammar Experience

The Outdoor Learning Program enriches academic learning, nurtures personal growth, and creates lasting memories. Whether building a shelter in the Preparatory School or leading a Senior expedition, students are empowered to discover, connect and thrive.
