Sport at Guildford

Sport is a compulsory and valued part of the co-curricular program at Guildford Grammar School.
All students from Years 7–12 participate in both a summer and winter sport each year, following a consistent structure of two training sessions and one fixture per week. While the level of commitment is the same for both boys and girls, the specific training and fixture schedules vary to reflect the different competition models and pathways available.
Boys Program
The boys’ program is aligned with the Public Schools Association (PSA), providing a well-established and competitive environment. Boys in Years 7–9 train on Mondays and Wednesdays (either before or after school) and compete in interschool fixtures on Friday afternoons during school hours. For boys in Years 10–12, training takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with fixtures held on Saturday mornings.
Girls Program
Girls participate in a range of community-based competitions, meaning their schedules vary depending on the sport. More detailed information about training and fixtures for each sport can be found under the individual sport tabs.
For girls in Years 7–9, sports that include weekend fixtures typically involve one after-school training session and another on Friday afternoons during school hours. Sports without weekend fixtures include two after-school training sessions per week and internal friendly competitions on Friday afternoons. For Girls Year 7–9 sports with Friday night fixtures, an additional after-school training session may be scheduled during the week. This is because a heavy session cannot be held on Friday afternoons prior to fixtures. Instead, Friday afternoons will focus on game education and recovery in preparation for that night’s game.
In Years 10–12, girls continue to train twice a week after school. Those involved in weekend competitions participate in external fixtures, while those in sports without weekend games take part in internal friendly competitions held on Friday afternoons after school.

Sport Participation
Sport is a key part of the Guildford Grammar School experience and an expectation for all students in Years 4–12. Alongside Physical Education classes, students participate in a broad co-curricular sports program designed to promote health, wellbeing, character development and a lifelong enjoyment of sport.
Sport commitments vary by year level but generally include:
- Regular training sessions before, after or during school
- Weekly fixtures, competitions or carnivals
- Additional commitments for students selected in representative teams or Firsts squads
Typical commitments increase as students move through the School, ranging from one training session and several carnivals in Year 4 to multiple weekly trainings and weekend fixtures in Senior School.
The School recognises that students may have other commitments outside school. Where a student is competing or participating at a high level in another activity that clashes with school sport, parents may apply for a sport modification. These are considered on a seasonal basis and reviewed regularly. Ongoing exemptions from sport are not provided.
