Our Difference
Our Chapel
The Chapel of St Mary and St George
Since 1914 the Chapel of St Mary and St George has been a place of worship and reflection at Guildford Grammar.
Its doors have welcomed generations of students, families, Old Guildfordians and members of the wider community to gather for significant moments and find a sacred place for reflection.
The History of the Chapel
The story of the Chapel of St Mary and St George began in the early years of the twentieth century, as Guildford Grammar developed a closer relationship with the Church of England.
In 1908, Charles Harper began discussions with local clergy about the future of the School. The transfer to the Church of England took place in 1910 under Headmaster and cleric Percy Henn, who had secured the support of London businessman Cecil Oliverson to finance the construction of a Chapel on the School grounds.
The Chapel of St Mary and St George was consecrated by the Bishop of Perth on Lady Day, 25 March 1914.
The Chapel has remained an important part of life at Guildford Grammar. Generations of students have gathered for worship, significant School occasions and weekly reflection, while families and members of the wider Guildford Grammar community have celebrated weddings, baptisms, funerals and other milestones.

Our School Prayer
Almighty and Everlasting God, Heavenly Father, we give you humble and hearty thanks that you have called us to the knowledge of your Grace and to Faith in you.
Grant to the students and staff of this school that, having been made your children by adoption and grace, we may daily be renewed by your Holy Spirit. Sow the seed of eternal life in our hearts that whatsoever in your Holy Word we shall profitably learn we may indeed fulfil the same.
Look, O Lord, mercifully upon us from heaven and bless us, that obeying your Will and always being in safety under your protection we may abide in your love to our lives’ end.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
