Little Explorers Handbook
Play Investigations
Indoor Play Investigations
Our building is beautiful, light and welcoming with open-ended provocations reflecting the children’s interests. In our art atelier, the children use a range of media and craft items, which see them enjoying sensory experiences with clay or participating in a weaving project.
Dramatic play, oral language and storytelling are encouraged. Children can engage in small world play and mark-making opportunities, along with reading books, completing puzzles, experimenting with light and creating using a range of recycled materials and natural loose parts.
Outdoor Play Investigations
Little Explorers spend time outdoors, immersed in the natural environment. We have our own playground, and the children have access to a range of activities that challenge them physically and encourage supported risk-taking. Our Little Explorers can spend time climbing trees, riding tricycles, building and digging in the sandpit, playing in puddles, and constructing obstacle courses.
The Little Explorers make the most of the beautiful campus with Adventure Walks – to find some muddy puddles to jump in or have a picnic by the river.
We walk rain, hail or shine, fully believing that there is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing! We often visit the Preparatory School Nature Playground and enjoy whizzing down the slide to the playground and wading in the ponds. Trips to the Preparatory School Library are part of our adventures and the children are welcome to borrow books.
A highlight of our program is Bush School, where children spend time exploring our beautiful natural surroundings with our Nature Pedagogy Practitioner. These sessions nurture curiosity, confidence, and a deep connection to the land and environment.
