Little Explorers Handbook
Our Philosophy
The Little Explorers Program
Our program recognises your child as strong, capable and resilient — rich with wonder and knowledge. This mirrors our shared Vision Statement for Early Learning at Guildford Grammar, where we value the innate curiosity of children. We encourage the ‘whys’ to help your child understand their world and who they are in it.
Underpinning everything we do in Little Explorers is the act of play, child brain development research and student agency. We are inspired by several education theories which encourage children to explore, discover and learn in a supportive and rich environment.
The safe and secure indoor and outdoor learning environments are designed to be open and allow children to flow freely between spaces, enabling uninterrupted exploration, play and learning.
Learning Through Play
Teachers design learning opportunities and provocations that are created around the children’s interests and questions. We value the child as central to their own learning, where they are supported to pursue their own interests and revisit and build upon ideas at their own pace.
We recognise that children have multiple ways of thinking, playing, exploring, speaking and doing. We provide them with many ways to express themselves.
We employ highly professional Early Childhood Specialist Teachers and qualified Education Assistants who are joyful about supporting, observing, talking with, listening to and playing purposefully with each child. This enables staff to have highly informed pedagogical conversations in collaborative and intentionally designed spaces, where children are stimulated through play-based experiences and explore concepts in a developmentally appropriate way.
Partnership with Families
There is a strong focus on language development and building strong social and emotional skills and relationships. The opportunities provided encourage children to be curious and to have a sense of awe and wonder.
It is very much respected that parents are a child’s first educator, and as such we value your input and look forward to developing a close relationship with you to support your child’s transition from home into the school environment.
