A Legacy That Lasts

Generosity That Changes Lives

We recently relaunched our program that honours those who choose to leave a lasting legacy for future generations. The event brought together friends, supporters and members of our community for an afternoon of reflection, gratitude and hope.

Held at the Royal Perth Yacht Club, guests were treated to a moving performance by our a cappella choir, words of encouragement from our Principal, and a heartfelt reflection from Deputy School Captain, Addison Smith (Stirling), who shared how her scholarship has shaped her journey. Her story was a powerful reminder that the generosity of others continues to open doors and change lives in ways that are hard to measure, but impossible to ignore.

Central to the event was guest speaker, past parent and Old Guildfordian Morgan Solomon (Freeth 1984-1989), who shared insights from his report Inheritance: State of Play in WA. With an estimated $5.4 trillion in intergenerational wealth transfer now underway, he described this as “one of the largest shifts of wealth in human history”. His message was clear:

“The size of the current wealth transfer is enormous. As is the opportunity for you to get it right. The fallout and damage of poor or non-existent estate planning can break families beyond repair and echo for generations. When done well, the effects are one of the greatest gifts anyone can give, and can be life-changing …”

For Guildford Grammar, the message resonates deeply. The foresight of those who choose to leave a gift for the future has long ensured that our School can provide scholarships, create new learning spaces and continue to thrive. We are ever mindful that the opportunities our students enjoy today – from scholarships to the places where they learn, play and form lifelong friendships – are possible because of the generosity of those who came before us.

Those who choose to leave a gift in this way become part of our Oliverson Society, a special community that honours the legacy of Cecil Oliverson, whose extraordinary generosity enabled the building of our Chapel in 1914. Their commitment ensures that Guildford Grammar will continue to flourish from tradition to tomorrow.

At the heart of the day was one simple truth: the generosity of our community transforms lives — today, tomorrow and for generations to come.
