Future Boarders

Meet the Guildford Community

At Guildford Grammar School, our warm and inclusive community is at the heart of everything we do, especially when welcoming new boarders into the fold.

Our Boarding Precinct came to life recently as we hosted a special welcome BBQ for future Year 7 boarders and their families. With families travelling from across regional WA, from Perenjori in the north to Hyden in the east, the event marked the beginning of an important journey filled with connect, laughter and genuine conversation.

Friendships Begin Before Day One

Future boarders were greeted by our Year 12 Boarding Prefects and current students, who led games and helped everyone feel at home. From backyard cricket and basketball to Connect4, Jenga and a nine-hold mini golf course, there was no shortage of ways to break the ice and build new friendships.

Adding the sense of community, we welcomed a group of Year 6 students from our Preparatory School, who took the time to share stories about life at Guildford Grammar. These city-based day students connected easily with the incoming boarders, exchanging letters and reflections in a thoughtful gesture that perfectly captured the spirit of the day.

Guildford Ascent: Supported Steps to Success

This welcome event is part of Guildford Ascent, our tailored transition program that supports new boarders well before their first day on campus. Designed to build confidence, connection and a sense of belonging, Guildford Ascent spans several months, easing the transition from home life to boarding life.

From casual gatherings like the weekend BBQ, to personalised regional visits, online preparation sessions and an orientation weekend later in the year, every stage of Guildford Ascent is designed to help students feel seen, supported and ready to thrive.

The program recognises that joining a boarding community is a big step, for both students and families, and ensures that no one takes that step alone. Through meaningful experiences and ongoing communication, students begin forming friendships, developing independence and gaining the confidence they need to settle in and succeed.

Strengthening Connections, Near and Far

As part of our wider boarding program, our team also hit the road this week, visiting Tammin to spend time with families in their local community. These visits are a key part of our commitment to personalised care – reinforcing the strong connection between home and school and offering families the chance to ask questions, share stories and build rapport in a setting that’s familiar and comfortable.

A Place to Belong

Whether it’s a game of cricket on Mann Oval, a quiet chat over lunch, or a shared story between peers, it all matters. It’s the strength of our relationships, formed early and nurtured with care, that makes this place where every student truly belongs.
