French is flourishing across all year levels at Guildford Grammar, from immersive cultural experiences for senior students to innovative language learning in the Preparatory School.

Experiencing French Beyond the Classroom

Our Year 10, 11 and 12 French students immersed themselves in Francophone culture at the Alliance Française French Film Festival – held at Raine Square Cinema. Students viewed Le Panache (Speak Out), an inspiring film that sparked meaningful discussions about courage, self-expression and the power of language.

The excursion provided a rich educational experience, enhancing students’ listening skills and deepening their understanding of everyday language in real-world contexts. Through cinema, students gained insights into the traditions, values and perspectives of French-speaking communities, building a broader appreciation for Francophone culture.

Building Strong Foundations in the Preparatory School

In our Preparatory School, our youngest learners are also incorporating the French language in new and exciting ways. The introduction of the Accelerated Integrated Method (AIM) in the Preparatory School has transformed the way students engage with French, creating a dynamic and immersive learning environment.

By combining gestures, storytelling and high-frequency vocabulary, AIM has captured students’ enthusiasm and encouraged strong participation. This multi-sensory approach supports all types of learners – visual, auditory and kinesthetic – making French both enjoyable and memorable. Students are gaining confidence, improving their comprehension and laying a strong foundation in spoken language.

A Whole School Approach to Language Learning

The AIM program has quickly become an integral part of the Preparatory School’s approach to French, while experiences like the French Film Festival continue to enrich language learning in the senior years. From our earliest learners to our senior students, French is coming alive at Guildford Grammar.
