NAIDOC Round
Guildford Grammar
The 2025 Metro Central Football Competition NAIDOC Round brought together players, performers and community for a day of football and cultural pride at Guildford Grammar School.
The Girls Football teams took to Roberts Oval in wet conditions, opening with a strong 66–12 win for the Year 9/10s over the Morley Bulldogs. The Year 11/12s followed with a hard-fought contest, going down 17–32.
We were joined by Andrew Beck and Ash Penfold, with Ash sharing a timely reminder that Mother Nature is always in control. A sentiment that rang true as the Boodjar Bidi dancers performed in the rain while Tyrell from Wesley College played the didgeridoo.
PSA Indigenous Round
Earlier this year, the Boys AFL team hosted the 2025 PSA Indigenous Round against Wesley College — the same match-up that first launched this initiative over a decade ago. The day began with a Smoking Ceremony led by Ash Penfold, following a welcome from Andrew Beck from AISWA, who introduced the PSA Indigenous Round in 2014 during his time as Indigenous Program Lead at Guildford Grammar.
In a special show of unity, the Moorditj Mob from Wesley College danced alongside the Boodjar Bidi performers, filling Roberts Oval with movement, music and shared pride. Held during National Reconciliation Week, the event was a powerful reminder of the role sport can play in building understanding, respect and connection.
Our Ongoing Commitment
Both events reflect the heart of Boodjar Bidi, “land path”, Guildford Grammar’s Indigenous program supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to grow in confidence, identity and cultural knowledge. Guided by Elders, families and community partners, the program creates opportunities to connect with culture in ways that are lived, not just learned.
Through performance, storytelling, mentoring and shared experiences, students, both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, learn the value of respect, belonging and pride.
We thank everyone who contributed to these rounds and look forward to continuing this journey together, on and off the field.
