The following outlines key medical procedures and requirements for boarding families:
- Student Health Records: All boarding students are required to have a boarder’s medical completed by their GP prior to being accepted into boarding. All past medical conditions, illnesses, injuries and medications must be recorded on the relevant forms, and the Nurse Manager should be contacted to discuss any specific issues that may affect day-to-day care.
- Medications: All medications must be presented to the Medical Centre for appropriate dispensing during term time. Students are not permitted to keep medication in their rooms without prior review by nursing staff. This includes Panadol, Nurofen or any over-the-counter supplements.
- Appointments: All medical appointments are coordinated through the Medical Centre to ensure reminders are provided and absences are verified by teaching staff. This includes doctor’s appointments and visits to allied health professionals such as dentists, physiotherapists or psychologists. Please notify the nursing staff of all appointments by email at medical@ggs.wa.edu.au or phone 9377 9211 during office hours.
- Chemist Charges: The School partners with Healthlink Pharmacy, which delivers all medications daily during term time. These are charged directly to each student’s account.
- Transport: The Medical Centre uses the services of the School’s Transport Services Manager for appointments in and around the Midland/Guildford area, including visits to orthodontists, dental therapists, physiotherapists, pathology and radiology providers. For other specialist appointments, parents are asked to arrange a guardian to accompany the student or, alternatively, a staff member can be provided at a nominal cost.
- Weekly doctor’s visits: Waterhall Medical Centre continues to support the Guildford Grammar School Boarding Community, with Dr Shrestha visiting on Tuesday mornings for routine medical appointments.
Parents are asked to notify the Medical Centre staff of any changes relevant to their child’s medical care, including guardian details, Medicare information, or any new injuries or illnesses.
