Girls Football Program

Girls Football Program

Girls Football at Guildford Grammar is on the rise – and the results speak for themselves.

Our Years 7/8 team had a remarkable season, finishing top of the ladder with 12 wins, one loss and one draw. After winning their qualifying final, they’ve secured a direct path into the grand final at Ellenbrook District Open Space on Sunday 7 September at 10.45am.

Our 9/10s are playing in the preliminary final tonight, fighting for their chance to play in the grand final next week. While our Senior 11/12 team reached the elimination final but unfortunately missed out on a show at the GF. Our team’s success showcases the depth of talent across all year groups. The future of Girls Football at Guildford Grammar is incredibly bright.

Building Pathways with WA Football

This success is underpinned by support from WA Football during Term 2 and Term 3. Each Friday afternoon, they deliver a Football Pilot Program for our Years 7–9 girls, covering every aspect of the game: professional mock combine testing, coaching accreditations, umpiring courses, AFL 9’s matches, strength and conditioning, and tackling master classes.

The program builds knowledge as well as skills, giving our students confidence, resilience and a strong sense of belonging in the sport.

A Coaching Team of the Highest Calibre

At the heart of the program is an extraordinary coaching group. These women are not only skilled players at the highest levels of football, they are inspiring role models who understand the values and expectations of Guildford Grammar. Among them are two Old Guildfordians, returning to guide the next generation.

  • Carys D’Addario (OG, Swan Districts WAFLW) – WA’s MVP at the National Championships, AFLW Under-18 All-Australian, and Swan Districts Best and Fairest 2024.

  • Abbygail Bushby (OG, West Coast Eagles AFLW) – Current West Coast Eagles AFLW player.

  • Jessica Rentsch (West Coast Eagles AFLW) – Winner of the West Coast Eagles Emerging Talent Award 2024.

  • Holly Egan (Fremantle Dockers AFLW) – Current Fremantle Dockers AFLW player.

  • Taylor Edwards (Swan Districts WAFLW) – Current Swan Districts WAFLW player.

  • Chloe Rielly (East Fremantle WAFLW) – Current East Fremantle WAFLW player.

Having such quality and experience on the field week after week is invaluable. These women are showing our students what is possible.

Community and Opportunity

The growth of Girls Football has created a strong sense of community. Parents fill the sidelines on Friday nights and Sundays, students are eager to take part, and WA Football and our AFLW partners have gone out of their way to support the program. Football matches have become a gathering place for families, building connection and school spirit.

Opportunities outside of the School have also opened up. Our girls have visited the West Coast Eagles’ facilities, learning firsthand what it takes to compete at the top level, and they are building pathways to continue in football well beyond their school years.

Going Forward

Guildford Grammar is committed to ensuring girls have the coaching, pathways and encouragement to go as far as their talents and aspirations will take them. On the field, our girls are learning to tackle, defend and win the hard ball. Off the field, they are learning values of teamwork, respect and perseverance that will carry far beyond football.

With the combination of expert coaching, strong community backing and determination from our players, Girls Football at Guildford Grammar is not just thriving now – it is laying the foundations for the future.

Go Forward, Girls.
