Seeking Story Dogs for GGS

27 Jun 2019

You might have seen on TV recently a segment about Story Dogs volunteer teams going into schools and helping kids to learn to love reading. We would love to introduce the program here at Guildford Grammar Preparatory School and we have contacted the local co-ordinator who also happens to be the Junior Boarding Housemother, Mary O’Donovan! Here is a quick taste of what the program wants to achieve -

If you have 2 hours a week to spare during term time and you have a calm and friendly dog who loves kids, then you might like to apply to become a story dog volunteer here at GGS. It doesn’t matter what kind of dog you have, it is their demeanour and friendliness that counts, and your ability to commit to the 2 hours a week. The program isn’t about teaching kids to read – that’s what our teachers are for – it’s to get kids excited about reading and getting them involved in stories.

As you can imagine the assessment to be part of the Story Dog program is quite rigorous – anything that involves the safety of children interacting with dogs must be – but have a look at the website and see if it’s something that you, or someone that you know, might like to be involved with.

Once you have checked out the website and read the volunteer information, if you could complete the application form and send it back to that will get the ball rolling.
