Our kids are Sunsmart!

Guildford Grammar School was recently named a SunSmart school, with a SunSmart sign and certificate presented to Mr Wight and members of the P & F after the Preparatory School assembly on Friday 11 October. The students also enjoyed meeting the SunSmart mascot Sid!

To reinforce our commitment to sun protection, all students were presented with their own bottle of GGS sunscreen to attach to their school bag. The sunscreen initiative was developed and funded by the P & F Society.

Cancer Council Western Australia's SunSmart Schools Programs Coordinator, Sally Blane, congratulated Guildford Grammar School for the initiative.

“A Cancer Council survey of WA primary schools showed that only 50 per cent of schools have sunscreen available in all classrooms, so having every children with sunscreen is a step above that,” she said.

“Only six per cent of schools reported that all students had applied sunscreen before lunch.

“Using sunscreen regularly has been shown to reduce the risk of skin cancer, including the deadliest form, melanoma, yet daily sunscreen use in Australia is below 20 per cent.”
