Meet the New Principal - Message from the Chair of Council
Meet the New Principal
Message from the Chair of Council
28 Jun 2019
On behalf of the Guildford Grammar School Council, I am delighted to share with you that Mrs Anne Dunstan has been appointed as the next Principal of Guildford Grammar School commencing in January 2020.
Anne is currently the Principal of Pulteney Grammar School in Adelaide, which is an historic Anglican
co-educational Early Learning to Year 12 school. During her tenure at Pulteney, Anne created a culture of innovative teaching and lifelong learning through an ethos of excellence. Through individual and collective capacity building and extensive infrastructure development under Anne’s leadership, the school is now firmly positioned as an innovative educational leader in South Australia.
In addition to serving as Principal of Pulteney Grammar School, Anne also currently serves as the Deputy Chair of the Association of Independent Schools of South Australia and is a member of the South Australian Certificate of Education Board.
Prior to her role as Principal of Pulteney Grammar School, Anne was the Deputy Head and Head of Senior School of Scotch Oakburn College, a co-educational boarding and day Kindergarten to Year 12 school in Tasmania. From 2009 to 2013 Anne worked across the school’s two campuses to develop, implement and measure a vision for learning that fostered innovation and improved student engagement.
Anne holds a Masters of Leadership and Education Management from the University of Newcastle and a Bachelor of Arts, a Graduate Diploma of Education and two Graduate Certificates (Education and Australian Studies) from the University of Adelaide.
Over the past 23 years Anne has held senior positions in Early Learning to Year 12 in independent schools. She has experience in transformational change and has a track record of developing and implementing evidence-based goals in a collaborative way. She is skilled in the relational, strategic and operational domains of school leadership and has experience with capital projects including, most recently, the design, construction and opening of a new purpose-built Middle School at Pulteney Grammar School.
As an educator, Anne’s focus on student engagement and academic rigour has seen students grow and learn in and beyond school. She is also firmly committed to student wellbeing and pastoral care and to the provision of safe, nurturing and collaborative environments where students learn as equals, side by side, while also receiving the individualised support they need to thrive and excel.
Anne’s appointment follows a comprehensive recruitment process which attracted an outstanding field of local, national and international candidates. With an inclusive leadership style, exceptional interpersonal skills, strong strategic focus and values and beliefs that closely align with those of the School and reflect the ethos of a true Guildfordian, Anne stood above the field of candidates.
Anne is looking forward to settling into Western Australia with her husband Ben and getting to know our school community. Having spent five years away from a school with a boarding facility, she is particularly looking forward to engaging with the boarding community. Anne and Ben’s 18 year old son, Joshua, will stay in Adelaide where he is currently attending university.
Anne will join Guildford Grammar School in January 2020, taking over from Stephen Webber, who will leave the School at the end of this year. The School Council would like to acknowledge Stephen’s leadership, compassion and vision and congratulate him on his new appointment.
You can learn more about Anne and her plans for the School by watching this introductory video.
Anne will spend some time at Guildford in 2019 to commence her transition and become more familiar with the School. The School Council is excited at the prospect of working with Anne and looks forward to her significant contribution to our school community.
Mr Mitchell Wells
