In a special ceremony as part of today’s School assembly, one of two newly purchased Empacher VIII boats was named after Mr Geoffrey Hale, an Old Boy of the School, former Registrar, former Master in Charge of Rowing, member of the 1960 Olympic Rowing Australia VIII, and one of the founding members of the successful and well supported Guildford Rowing Association (GRA).

There is a new powerful swimming club in the region, formed through a partnership between the Guildford Blues Swimming Club and the Kalamunda Districts Swimming Club. The new club will be known as the Guildford and Kalamunda Districts Swimming Club. This exciting new partnership presents many new opportunities and programs for local swimmers.

Two Year 6 students, Maximillian Wadkins and Nicholas Trease, were awarded gold medals in the recent Australasian Mathematical Problem Solving Olympiads. The boys were two of only 280 students from Australia, New Zealand and Singapore who achieved perfect scores in the competition.

Guildford Grammar School has won the ‘Best School’ category at this year’s Bond University Film and Television Awards, with Media Teacher Brad Minchin collecting the award at a Gala Ceremony on the Gold Coast on Friday evening. Adding to the excitement, Year 12 student Ben Levin was runner-up in both the ‘Art Film’ category and the Encouragement Award, highlighting his film making talents and potential in the film industry.

Year 6 student and Head Girl, Brooke Rego, blitzed the competition at last weekend’s State Short Course Qualifying Meet, taking home first in the state for her age group in five of her races and rounding off the meet with seconds and a third in the rest of her events. Brooke’s impressive effort saw her beat all of her personal best times, and she is now eligible to compete in the State Short Course Swimming Championships in July.

Guildford Grammar School and the Cambridge Society of WA will hold an inaugural Cambridge style debate, debating the motion that, 'This house believes that the primary purpose of education must be to train the mind to think, ahead of teaching vocational skills.
' Two Year 12 students, Hamish Robertson and Myles Niutta, will join the Cambridge Society teams, one on each side of the debate.

A recent visit to the School by Councillor Charles Briggs from the Burnley Council in England has strengthened the partnership between Guildford Grammar School and former English Premier League club, Burnley Football Club. The visit also highlighted the opportunities available for young soccer players to train and develop their skills through camps and clinics held on the School grounds, with the ultimate goal of sending players to train in the United Kingdom with the Burnley Youth squad.

Last week, work commenced on the highly anticipated Catalyst building at Guildford Grammar School, which will see the construction of 14 new teaching rooms, 8 Catalyst laboratories, IT resource areas, staff planning and resource areas and a new Administration centre, constructed alongside the current School building on Great Eastern Highway. The $15m project will be constructed by Emco Building Company and should take approximately 12 months to complete.

Guildford Grammar Preparatory School is holding a special ceremony at 9.00am on Friday 20 May 2011, to officially open the re-developed Hamersley Resource Centre and Kyle Visual Arts Centre. The re-development work was made possible due to Building the Education Revolution funding provided to the School by the Federal Government as part of its Economic Stimulus package.
