Rowing

Rowing is a unique and rewarding sport where boys are part of a large and committed team. Boys compete in a variety of events throughout the rowing season, beginning in Term 4 with a series of distance races. During Term 1 each year, crews compete in weekly regattas over shorter distances, leading up to Head of the River Regatta at the end of the Term.

The rowing team from each PSA school competes for the Hamer Cup, with each crew’s results added to a cumulative score. Guildford placed overall 2nd in 2011.  All First VIII crews compete for the prestigious Challenge Cup on Head of the River day, Guildford placed 4th in this event in 2011.  These results were very pleasing and we look forward to more excellent results in the next few years.

With rigorous training and a high level of commitment and skill required to compete in schoolboy rowing, strong and lasting bonds are formed. The history, humour and adventure that are part of being a Guildford Rower stay with the Boys long after they have finished competing.

The parents of rowers play a vital support role, transporting boys to and from training, attending the Saturday regattas, preparing lunches at the Boatshed for the boys’ return after the regattas, raising funds, and assisting in the conduct of annual Rowing Camps. The camaraderie and goodwill amongst the parents of Guildford rowers is legendary within the school community.

The Guildford Rowing Association (The GRA) is the official rowing support organisation at Guildford Grammar School. This vibrant organisation incorporates past and present rowers and their families, providing support for the current rowers and a rich social network for all who have been associated with Guildford Grammar School Rowing.

Mr Tony Lovrich, the School's Director of Rowing, is a high profile West Australian Rower.
