Catalyst

Guildford Grammar School's unique Catalyst Program is a structural change that provides an opportunity for us to review and recreate our curricular and co-curricular educational opportunities, programs and experiences over the three junior secondary years spanning Year 7 to Year 9.Introducing a new Junior Secondary Curriculum for Guildford Grammar School in 2010

The School has used the movement of Year Seven students to our Senior Campus as a catalyst for change, developing an inspiring lower secondary teaching and learning program; one that is specifically built for boys.

We have constructed a three-year sequential curriculum which will develop student expertise in literacy and numeracy, as well as key academic and learning skills. These skills provide a learning toolkit for success in senior secondary years. Targeted skills include literacy, numeracy, authentic research, problem solving, critical thinking, scientific methodology and analysis, public speaking and working collaboratively.

In addition to developing these skills, significant attention has been paid to developing individual interests and the range of learning opportunities available to each student. Students will be offered increased choice, opportunity and flexibility in their learning through a wide range of specialised semester-length optional electives to be introduced from Year Seven.
