Tournament of the Minds

Tournament of Minds is an Australia-wide competition in lateral thinking for students in Years 8 to 10. It is conducted during the second half of Term 2 and the first half of Term 3, culminating in Tournament Day in late August for teams from all over Australia. State Finals follow two weeks later with the Australian Final in October.

Teams made up of 7 members prepare a solution to a problem in ONE of the following disciplines

• Maths/Engineering
• Literature
• Social Sciences
• Applied Technology

Preparing the solution involves writing a script, creating costumes and props and performing the solution on Tournament Day. On the same day teams also have to solve a Spontaneous Problem.

Tournament of Minds fosters creative thinking, honesty, teamwork, commitment and humour. It is a very popular activity at Guildford Grammar School during the winter months.
