Swimming Program
Guildford Grammar School offers a comprehensive swimming program that caters for swimmers of all levels, from learn-to-swim to elite level swimming. By being part of the swim program, swimmers have the opportunity of gaining positive determination, commitment and focus which can be used to further themselves as a person. They also become part of a recognized successful unit as Guildford Grammar School, having produced many national and international swimmers, has a strong swimming reputation.
There are 4 Swimming programs offered at the school:
1. Learn-to-swim:
The learn-to-swim program is offered to students by AUSTSWIM qualified teachers. Classes are kept at the very small ratio of 4 students per teacher providing maximum learning opportunities. Lessons are 30 minutes long and are held after school in the heated Preparatory School pool.
2. The Summer Sports Program:
Swimming is offered as part of the School’s compulsory sport program in Term 1 and Term 4. This program is designed to accommodate swimmers of varying abilities and the emphasis is on stroke correction and training for general fitness. Boys normally attend 3 sessions per week.
3. “Sprinters for Inters” and “NUGGET” Squads
These squads are for boys trying for a place in the Inter-school Team. Boys in these squads do other summer sports and train for swimming in the mornings or on their “off-sport” afternoons. Boys who have chosen swimming as a summer sport are also encouraged to be part of these squads in preparation for the PSA inter-school swimming competition.
4. Guildford Blues Swimming Club
Students of the school may join Guildford Blues Swimming Club. The club exists to provide its members with swimming opportunities outside the normal school swimming program. The club is comprised of both Preparatory and Senior School students, many of whom compete in inter-club, state and national competitions.
Guildford Blues Swimming Club operates under a memorandum of understanding with Guildford Grammar School and coaching is directed by the School’s Head Swimming Coach. The club is actively involved in promoting swimming and water safety in the Guildford community.
