Cricket

CDeveloping a boy’s latent cricketing talent is not about being one of a large number of participants, but in the quality of the coaching he will receive. It is generally recognised that smaller class numbers result in more personalised and consequently better quality learning, and at Guildford Grammar School, we believe the same philosophy applies to any sporting pursuit.

Any boy with an interest in cricket, whatever that level of interest may be when first arriving at Guildford Grammar School, is provided with every opportunity to develop his talent and achieve his maximum potential. While we certainly encourage a healthy competitive spirit, our emphasis is on development of the individual, rather than producing large numbers of players from which to select teams.

Cricket, A 'Priority' Sport
Guildford Grammar School has a tradition of cricketing excellence stretching over 100 years. The importance placed on the sport is best illustrated by Guildford being the only institution within the public school system in Western Australia to have a Director of Cricket.

Steve Philippe is a Level 3 Coach and former State Coaching Coordinator of the WACA. He has previously coached the Under 17 State Team, was Manager of the Under 19 State Team, and represented WA in the State Colts team. He holds a Bachelor of Physical Education and Diploma of Education.

Turning Potential into Ability, with Personalised Programs
All coaching staff members have been chosen specifically for their cricketing experience and ability to provide personalised, one-on-one training. Players take part in structured fitness and conditioning programmes, are provided with individual guidance and welfare, taught game strategies and tactics, and benefit from video analysis of their playing style.

Coaching emphasis always remains on the individual, maximising strengths to instil a sense of personal achievement. All players who demonstrate suitable levels of skill and ability are also provided with opportunities to participate in State and school based competitions, development squads and elite talent programmes.
