MUSIC AT GUILDFORD

The Music faculty has a strong emphasis on the value of performance, and
opportunities to develop performance skills are a critical component of all
courses and activities undertaken.

Approximately 600 students are actively involved in class music studies,
both in the Preparatory and Senior School Campuses. Music is an integral part of the curriculum at Guildford Grammar School and is a compulsory subject for all students from K-7. Guildford also offers Music as an elective subject in Year 8, 9 and 10. TEE Music (Music E632) is offered to students in Year 11 and 12.

Exciting initiatives in the Preparatory School see every student in Year 5 participate in the string programme and all Year 6 and 7 students having the opportunity to commence learning a band instrument through the class band programme.

In addition to the class subjects on offer, the school has a thriving Instrumental and Vocal Program, complemented by a range of varied ensembles, both large and small. Our Jazz Bands and small ensembles are regular performers at festivals and concerts throughout Perth.
2008 sees the commencement of the GGS/PC Combined Senior Concert Band, Senior Orchestra and Combined Choir. Approximately 50 Guildford students are actively involved in these premier ensembles.

Students in the Music Faculty are given the opportunity to regularly view professional performances of bands and music theatre, in addition to performing themselves.

Scholarships
The School offers Music Scholarships as well as Instrumental and Choral Scholarships. Music Scholarships offer remission of fees as well as free instrumental tuition and free hire of instruments. Instrumental and Choral Scholarships offer free instrumental tuition and free hire of instruments.  Scholarships are usually awarded for entry into Year 8.  A performance standard of approximately Grade 3/4 AMEB is required.
