Facilities

Delivery of an outstanding curriculum must be supported by oustanding facilities, which is most certainly the case at Guildford Grammar Preparatory School.  Whether it be partaking in Music lessons in our Todd Music Centre, PE in our air-conditioned indoor gymnasium or heated 25m pool, Library and IT in our Hamersley Resource Centre or utilising any number of our air-conditioned, technology focused classroom the Staff and students of this fine school are most certainly supported with the very best of facilities.

Our co-educational Kindergarten to Year 7 Preparatory (Prep) School is located at one end of our 110 hectare campus. The buildings are surrounded by magnificently manicured green playing fields and each class has a designated classroom teacher who is responsible for the core curriculum and the pastoral well being of each student.

There is also a Specialist program operating in the Prep School, with dedicated teachers in the field of Art, Library, Information Technology, Music, Chinese/Mandarin and Physical Education.

The Preparatory School Library is known as the Hamersley Resource Centre, and was named in honour of Mrs Judy Hamersley. As the eldest granddaughter of Guildford Grammar School’s founder, Mr Charles Harper Judy remained a stalwart supporter of the School until her passing in 2006.

The Hamersley Resource Centre provides a warm and welcoming learning environment for the whole Preparatory School Community – students (K-7), staff, parents and extended family.

The Library houses approximately 25,000 resources including Fiction, Non Fiction, Reference and Audio-Visual.  Twenty six computers are available for student use, both informally and in a structured class lab.  Library staff guide and assist students to search the online library catalogue and databases for resources, whilst encouraging them to be independent life-long learners. An interactive white board compliments the learning experience in this area of the Library and encourages educational participation from all students.

The Hamersley Resource Centre aims to support the curriculum and to foster a love of reading in the Preparatory School.  This is reflected in the many special events and exciting activities which are held in the Library throughout the year.  A major annual event is Children’s Book Week, where dressing up, games, competitions, visiting authors and awesome displays are successfully organised and immensely enjoyed by staff, students and families.

Library and information skills are an integral part of the weekly classes conducted in the Library, where students are taught the basic skills of how to locate, evaluate and use information.  These lessons form the groundwork for future research and are an invaluable tool for all students heading into the Senior School.

Professional library staff collaborate with classroom teachers to provide resources and cater to the individual needs of all students.

The Hamersley Resource Centre is open Monday to Friday between 8.15am and 4.00pm and is both a busy hub of learning activity as well as a peaceful place to read.

The Out of School Care Centre aims to provide age appropriate, safe, stimulating and challenging play experiences for Pre-Primary and Primary School aged children. In addition, students are provided with a great variety of healthy, nutritious snacks/fruit in the afternoon and a full breakfast menu each morning.

Our aim is to ensure children have fun whilst in our care and our flexible programme provides opportunities to participate in a wide range of sports, games and art/craft activities. These programmes are enhanced by an excellent venue which was planned and decorated with plenty of input from the children. Being situated within the Preparatory School also means we have access to a wide range of the School's many facilities.

Our Centre prides itself on the high quality of play leading staff that provide a wealth of experience, qualifications and special interests which further heightens the level of care and activities we are able to provide.

For further information, please contact the Centre's Supervisor, Mrs Magda Heijmans on 9377 9290 or visit the Centre during opening hours.
