The co curricular life of the Preparatory School is reflected in many ways. Co curricular in this context refers to those activities which take place above and beyond the normal classroom curriculum. At Guildford Grammar Preparatory School, the co curricular component of education involves the following:
Music: Performance groups such as the Recorder ensemble, String ensemble, Guitar ensemble, Prep School Band, Junior choir and Senior choir. Twice a year young musicians have the opportunity to perform at Soloists’ Evening as well as the Musical Gala Night.
Instrumental lessons 2007, and Subsidised Instrumental Lessons Scheme 2007 (Years 4 - 7) at Guildford Grammar School
Before and After school clubs: Swimming, Cross country, Junior and Senior Chess, Craft, Farm, Computer, Table tennis, Walla Rugby, Media, Homework
Camps and Outdoor Education: Each class in the Prep School from Year 2-7 attend a camp. Year 2 spend a night away, with the camp programming culminating in a week of adventure/outdoor activities when the Year 7 students attend their camp in the third week of Term One. The camp programme is coordinated by the Director of Outdoor Education.
Sport: Each class in the Prep School, from Years 1-7, attends a double period of physical education each week. This equates to 70 minutes of skill development. As well as this time, Year 4-7 students attend an hour of training, after school, on Monday afternoon as well as playing Interschool sport on Thursday afternoon from 1.00pm-3.00pm.
A range of sports is on offer to the students, both in summer (swimming, tennis, basketball, softball, cricket and flippaball) and winter (hockey, Australian Rules football, rugby, soccer and netball).
Students in Years 1-3 attend an hour of Junior Primary sport on Wednesday afternoon. Specialist coaches work alongside teachers and with the students imparting coaching of the highest order. Sports such as Tennis, gymnastics, dance, swimming, football, netball and others are offered.
Kindergarten and Pre Primary children participate in the Perceptual Motor Program in Term 2 and Term 3. This program concentrates on developing fine and gross motor skills.
