The One Campus Project is the name given to the redevelopment of the School's playing fields and property bordering the Great Eastern Highway.
This is the first major project to be undertaken at the School for 15 years and signals the beginning of a new era of growth and development. Guildford Grammar School has been a major feature of the Guildford-Midland landscape for over 100 years and developments such as this ensure that it will continue to be a significant one.
• We have 1000 students – 400 boys and girls at Kindergarten and Preparatory School level and 600 boys in the Senior School. This represents a 20% growth in enrolments in the past 3 years.
• In the next five years the School is undertaking several major development projects to upgrade its facilities, many of which will be available for community use.
The project will cost in excess of $5.5 million. It will encompass a significant redevelopment of our playing fields and the property bordering Great Eastern Highway, linking the Preparatory and Senior Schools.
The work includes the construction of a new hockey pitch, a second football oval, 12 new acrylic surface tennis courts, a new sports pavilion and the reconstruction of Roberts Oval. Internal roads and car parks will also be rationalised and traffic movement in and out of the School from Great Eastern Highway will be dramatically improved with a new Main Entrance.
Traffic signals at the intersection of the new Main Entrance and Great Eastern Highway have been money well spent and now afford our community safe and smooth entrance and exit to the School.
How long will the Project take to finish?
Much of the construction work has been completed. The Roberts Oval sports pavilion is scheduled for completion by February 2008. After allowing for the proper amount of growing time for the grass surface, it is anticipated that the new sports fields will be available for use in 2008.
The landscape
The project includes extensive landscaping to complement Guildford Grammar School’s tranquil, park-like riverside campus and heritage village setting. The redevelopment has been carefully planned to retain as many trees as possible. We aim to plant many more trees than those we have had to remove! (2 for 1)
Apart from the students having better facilities, are there any other benefits?
The School anticipates a number of partnerships with community sports groups that will see the new facilities becoming available for public use outside regular class times. We believe Guildford Grammar School is an asset for the whole Guildford-Midland region. This project will highlight that potential and complement the significant structural changes that are taking place under the auspices of the Midland Redevelopment Authority.
