Official Opening of new Prep School Library and Art Room

19 May 2011 | Official Opening of new Prep School Library and Art Room

Senator Glenn Sterle will officially open the renovated facilities, accompanied by Headmaster, Mr Stephen Webber, and Head of the Preparatory School, Mr Justin Krause. Following the symbolic cutting of the ribbon, Senator Sterle will take a guided tour of the new facilities.

Construction on the building improvements commenced in April 2010 with the buildings ready for occupation in February 2011. Both the Hamersley Resource Centre and Kyle Visual Arts Centre were designed to create functional, interesting, and inspiring spaces for students. Through extensive use of natural light, views and colour, the new facilities allow students and staff an opportunity to work and learn in two new, unique environments.

The re-vamp of the Hamersley Resource Centre has provided a larger library with an additional 160m2 of space, a new IT laboratory and additional meeting and learning areas in the new lower level. The Centre has been fitted out with bright, contemporary furniture, with new areas for quiet reflection, study, and reading.

The art room renovation has created a fully functional art room and studio, with controllable natural lighting and the flexibility for a variety of teaching layouts and methods. As well as refurbishment of the existing art room, an additional 70m2  of space was added, which includes a glazed studio and an external verandah.
