28 Jun 2010 | Next Headmaster Appointed

Mr Steven Webber, the Next Headmaster of Guildford Grammar SchoolDear Guildford Grammar School Community

On behalf of the School Council it is my great pleasure to announce that Mr Stephen Webber will be the next Headmaster of Guildford Grammar School.  He will commence in this role from January 2011.

Stephen was the unanimous choice of the Recruitment Committee and the Council, and his appointment follows an extensive search which produced an outstanding field of local, interstate and overseas candidates.

Stephen has significant leadership experience in prominent independent schools in Australia.  He holds a BSc from the University of Adelaide, with Majors in Physics and Mathematics, and a MEd from Deakin University.  His Masters research dissertation focused on the impact of peer culture on boys’ education.  He has held a number of roles throughout his career including teaching at Trinity College Gawler, and MIC Basketball and Head of House at St Peter’s College Adelaide before being appointed Director of Studies.  Stephen has been Head of Senior School at Wesley College Perth since 2006.

Stephen and his wife Lynn have three children.  His interests include sport, outdoor pastimes and travel, and he maintains a keen eclectic interest in music.  He is a committed and active communicant of the Anglican Church.

In Stephen, Guildford Grammar School has secured a leader with vision, energy and commitment. He has a passion for education and takes a collegial and consultative approach to leadership, with a clear understanding and focus on academic excellence, and continuous improvement and best practice in education.  As our next Head, Stephen will not only value and protect the long heritage of the School, but has the vision to successfully build on the outstanding achievements of Rob Zordan.

I would like to thank Rob for providing sufficient notice of his retirement to allow the School to undertake this comprehensive search and interview process, and we thoroughly appreciate his wholehearted support and assistance during the recruitment.  Rob will retire at the end of 2010 and there will be a number of opportunities later in the year to acknowledge his considerable contribution to Guildford over the past eight years.

The School Council is delighted to announce this appointment to the School community.  We are genuinely excited by Stephen’s qualities as an outstanding educational leader and look forward to working with him to further progress contemporary education at Guildford Grammar School.

Yours sincerely

Heather Yeates
