Cybersafety with Dr Michael Carr-Gregg

27 Oct 2009 | Cybersafety with Dr Michael Carr-Gregg

Monday 9 November, seated by 7.00pm
DLD Centre, Guildford Grammar School

The 21st century cyber world is potentially a very positive learning and socialisation tool for children and adolescents as they navigate their way towards adulthood. However, the cyber world also comes with many potential dangers to our young people in terms of their physical safety, psychological well-being, academic performance, and even future employment opportunities. Therefore, it is a key responsibility for Guildford Grammar School to provide clear guidance to our school community about how the cyber world can be utilised to help and strengthen rather than hurt and hinder our young people. To this end, we have invited Michael Carr-Gregg to talk to you as parents on this issue at the same time as providing a forum to comment on our draft cybersafety policy and acceptable use agreement.

Apart from being a very powerful and entertaining public speaker, Michael is also one of Australia’s highest profile psychologists and is an expert on cyber safety.  He has held a number of positions including Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Melbourne and Director of the Centre for Social Health at the University of Melbourne.

We would be delighted if you were able to come and hear Michael speak in the DLD on Monday 9 November.  There will be light refreshments at 6.15 pm for a 7.00 pm start. The evening is expected to conclude at 8.30 pm. If you wish to attend please RSVP to Chae on calfirevich@ggs.wa.edu.au or (+61 8) 9377 8541.
