Congratulations to our Preparatory School Opti-MINDS teams for their involvement in the State Finals on the weekend. One of our teams has qualified to represent WA at the National event in Brisbane in October.

We are pleased to announce that we are planning to launch a 3-year-old Program, called Little Explorers, in 2018. Little Explorers will be run through the Out of School Care Program in alignment with the Early Years Framework. We are now seeking expressions of interest from families who are interested in registering for the program.

This Wednesday the Preparatory School is celebrating National Science Week with a Science Discovery afternoon.
We are pleased to advise that registration is now open for our third Excellence in Classroom Teaching Conference, which will be held here at the School on Saturday 16 September from 8.00am-5.00pm. The conference costs $150 for teachers and $100 for trainee teachers, and includes a wide selection of workshops for primary and secondary school teachers, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and networking opportunities.
Over the July school holidays, 15 students from Years 8-10 travelled to Greece to compete in the Athens Global Round of the World Scholar's Cup competition. All teams performed exceptionally well in the competition and it is a credit to them that all qualified for the Tournament of Champions to be held at Yale University later this year.
Congratulations to two of our Senior School students, Rourke (Year 10) and Ben (Year 9) who competed in the National U/15 and Youth Weightlifting Championships in Brisbane over the school holidays. Both boys represented the state and the school in admirable fashion, with Rourke bringing home a gold medal and Ben a bronze medal in their respective weight classes.
Year 8 student Tjiirdm McGuire is well on his way to stardom, as one of the key characters in the new 13-part children's television series Grace Beside Me (working title). The series is currently being filmed in Queensland and will premiere on NITV in 2018.
The Preparatory School Clubs program for Term 3 has been released and there really is something for everyone, with students able to select from 27 different co-curricular clubs for Term 3!

The theme for Book Week this year is “Escape to Everywhere”. We would like to create a display of postcards in the Preparatory School Library celebrating the many wonderful destinations many of you may visit in the holidays. It doesn’t matter if you are having a stay at home holiday, simply find your favourite Perth or Guildford touristy postcard and send it into us telling us about your adventures at home. We would love to hear about what you are getting up to on the holidays and make an exciting display of the postcards when you return.

To date, over 150 Indigenous students have attended the School, dating back to our first Indigenous student, Charlie Burns, who attended from 1905-1909.

Our March school tour is fully booked and several smaller tours will be arranged later for in Term 1 to meet demand.
Our Workplace Learning Program has produced some great outcomes for our students, including Year 12 student Samuel, who recently completed a very successful work placement at radio station News Talk 6PR 882. I
The Year 6 students recently enjoyed their camp last week, returning to the rebuilt Forest Edge Recreation Facility.
The 2017 Senior School Prefects were inducted this week, at two special Chapel Services in the beautiful Chapel of St Mary and St George.
In 1922 the new house system was introduced with two boarding houses, School House and St George’s House, and Stirling day boy house. By 1927 boarding numbers had grown to such an extent in School House that it was decided to form a new house. When the boys returned to school from the holidays in 1927 they were informed that there were now three houses. School House had been divided into two. There were a total of 90 boys in the Senior and Preparatory School, with 17 in the new Henn’s House.

Commencing on Thursday 16 February at 8.45am and running on a weekly basis, Cameron Fraser from Kāma Wellness is conducting yoga classes on the grassed area near the Boat Shed. Classes cost $15 per person, per session and bookings are not required.
A reminder to all music students in the Preparatory and Senior Schools that instrumental lessons begin in Week 2. Don't forget to register for our Music Meet and Greet BBQ!
