2011 WACE PERFORMANCE
We congratulate the class members of 2011 on their fine academic achievement and results in the 2011 WACE examinations. The cohort was characterised by a large number of boys who excelled in their studies – our prize giving ceremony was testament to this fact with 27 boys sharing the 38 prizes awarded.
High academic achievement continued to be the norm in 2011, with over a quarter (26.2%) of the graduating class achieving an ATAR in excess of 90, ranking their achievements in the top 10% nationally. Six of these students achieved an ATAR of 97.5 or better, placing them in the top 2.5% Australia-wide. This accomplishment also gained them entry into Guildford Grammar School’s Academic Honour Guild (formerly the 400 club).
We are particularly delighted by the twenty seven boys whose individual performances maintained the high standard of excellence set by the Class of 2010. Families, friends and teachers of these boys, listed at the end of this report, will know and appreciate just how hard they worked to achieve these results. We applaud them on their fine results.
Our congratulations go to 2011 Dux, William Tomlinson, who achieved an ATAR of 99.4 and who also received a Certificate of Distinction in Biology, placing him within the top 0.5% of the state. We also congratulate Aaron Goldsworthy for his Certificate of Distinction in Engineering Studies, placing him also within the top 0.5% of the state.
A snapshot of the Class of 2011 reveals:
• 27 students (26.21%) achieved an ATAR above 90
• A further 26 students (25.24%) achieved an ATAR of between 80 and 89.95
• The School median ATAR (students who studied four or more WACE courses) was 80.55
It is pleasing to note that 53 out of 103 students, or 51% of Guildford Grammar School students who sat four or more examinations, were placed in the top 20% of the state using the ATAR as the measure.
A further indication of broad academic ability of this cohort was the high number of admissions to the 2011 Senior Academic Honour Society. Twenty members of the graduating class achieved entry to this society, which requires the attainment of a minimum twelve A grades, and no grade less than a B, across the first eighteen months of Years 11 and 12. Retrospective entry into the Senior Academic Honour Society was awarded to Timothy Belton (Woodbridge) and Conrad Squire (Henns) as a result of year-long WACE course delivery modes.
