Guildford Art Supporters

The Guildford Art Supporters (GAS) is a Sub-Committee of the Guildford Grammar School Parents and Friends Association. GAS meets once a month to prepare and organise for the Annual Art Exhibition which is held on return from Third Term Holidays to coincide with the School's Fair Day. The Art Exhibition raises funds to hold talks given by prominent artists via the Art Rock Café, to offer an Artist In Residence position, to help with scholarships and funding to further studies for art students and where possible to purchase prominent pieces of art for the Guildford Grammar School collection.

The objectives of GAS are “TO MAKE THE ARTS MORE ACCESSIBLE" to all members of the school and its wider community. GAS generally has a lot of fun and encourages new members to come along for an insightful look into the Arts.

GAS activities in brief are:

  • Annual Art Exhibition - This event is held in the fourth term of each year in the School gymnasium. Through the hard work of the members of GAS, many areas of the arts are on show over a four day period. These include paintings, drawings, sculpture and objects d’art from prominent artists, as well as new and upcoming talent. Student art is also on display concurrently.
  • Art Rock Café - This is an event where parents and students are introduced to a local or visiting artist to learn their particular art history and have the opportunity to interact with questions and answers whilst in a very casual environment.
  • Artist in Residence - GAS in conjunction with the School are funding an Artist In Residence program for invited artists to work on site, allowing students to access and interact with this person on a one-to-one basis.
  • Scholarships and Funding - To support prominent GGS art students.
  • Purchases - To purchase, either in full or part thereof, pieces of art for display at the School.
